On the outskirts of Lhasa, the Sera monastery houses one of the ‘great three’ Gelukpa monastery universities in Tibet. It is best known for the energetic debates which happen between hundreds of monk, on a regular basis. This format is used to spark reflection and deepen the understanding of the monk studying there.
Pilgrims also arrive and pay their respects, with a final destination of the Jokang Temple in Lhasa. This pilgrim carries her few personal belongings and still wears the heavy apron that will partially protect her as she makes countless prostrations. She is shy, but still curious about me.She doesn’t speak English, so, after a genuine ‘Tashi delay, we share just a happy moment together with a smile.
